Nutrition Counseling

Dietary counseling is an important part of supportive care starting at diagnosis and extending into survivorship. Proper nutrition throughout cancer treatment has been shown to improve overall survival, reduce treatment-related toxicities, and improve quality of life. Each type of childhood cancer and treatment regimen impacts nutritional status differently. Our nutritionists determine the appropriate intervention for each child based on their diagnosis and individual needs, using research to guide their recommendations. Nutrition therapy can help manage chemotherapy-related side effects, such as changes in appetite, nausea and vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, mouth sores, and taste changes. Our nutritionists can help families understand the pros and cons of taking supplements to help manage these side effects.
