About Us

The Center for Comprehensive Wellness (CCW) within the Division of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology, and Stem Cell Transplantation at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and New York-Presbyterian Children's Hospital combines personalized integrative medicine and supportive care with patient’s course of treatment from diagnosis, through treatment and recovery, into survivorship.

The CCW conducts wide-ranging research on patterns of use and overall effectiveness of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) and nutrition throughout the world. We are international leaders in integrative medicine and supportive care for pediatric patients with cancer and blood disorders. The CCW is the first program of its kind for children with cancer, and now serves as a model for other institutions. In addition, our clinicians have established innovative global outreach programs using these therapies to optimize patient care. We aim to help children manage their symptoms and prevent side effects from treatment while providing supportive services to their families.

Our clinicians work closely with the medical team, serving children and their families both in hospital and outpatient clinic. Our three-tiered program includes:

• A wide range of Integrative Therapies validated in a clinical setting, including acupressure, acupuncture, aromatherapy, massage, mind-body therapies, nutrition, Reiki, and yoga.
• A Psychosocial Program, offering individual and family counseling, support groups, and neuropsychology assessments.
• A Survivor Wellness Program, providing medical and psychosocial support to patients who have completed treatment, and to their families, long-term.

Psychological counseling, neuropsychological, and survivor wellness assessments are typically covered by insurance. All other integrative medicine services are free of charge for patients and family members, thanks to generous donations.

CCW is internationally recognized for groundbreaking research in integrative and supportive care. Our clinicians are key educators in the field and are committed to maintaining the highest standards of care. Our clinicians play key roles in the Children's Oncology Group (COG), Society for Integrative Oncology (SIO) and the International Society for Pediatric Oncology (SIOP), the preeminent research consortium for supportive care in pediatric oncology, and lead programs on four continents.
